We are a group of students from Doncaster University Centre who want to bring people together through films. We know everyone enjoys watching films and hope that you will either come along to our screenings, to enjoy the atmosphere and discussions, or join in with the online discussions and read the reviews available; you can even write your own.
We understand the lives of students are hectic with deadlines and heavy workloads, but the screenings are a time to relax and watch films you either love or are not familiar with. The aim is to have a screening every fortnight after lessons have ended, so you can unwind from the day of work.
Some weeks there will be an online poll for you to choose the film we show, and others either us, or one of the University tutors, will pick one that will broaden your horizons and introduce a new genre or concept. We will even aim to show films that relate to your course, to help with understanding certain topics you cover. Any requests for films mentioned on your course, or even your favourite film can be left for us on the ‘Have Your Say’ page, and we will consider showing them for you.
After each screening there will be an optional discussion of the film that will last around 15 min, so if you love the film be ready to tell us why! The weeks when the tutors select the film this may be longer, as there will be much to say about their selection. If any of you would like to lead a discussion for a film please get in touch!
Don’t worry if you’re reading this and are not a student, we would still love you to take part, the more the merrier! You can watch the film at home then write reviews and take part in the discussions online. Any comments about the films are welcome to build up discussions, and everyone’s opinions are valid.
We look forward to seeing you at the screenings and reading your comments and reviews. Enjoy!
